NEW BASEL, KS – A sad accident occurred at the home of Jacob Forester, near New Basel, in Jefferson township, Tuesday. One of his sons had been out hunting and his gun refused to go off, so he returned home and stood the weapon against the house where it was found by a younger brother. The little fellow, about twelve years old, began snapping the trigger and of course the gun went off just at the wrong time, the load of bird shot striking his ten-year-old sister in the face. Her right eye was totally destroyed and her face badly mutilated and burned. Dr. Ketchersid attended her. – The Hope Herald. Reprinted by the Abilene Weekly Reflector, Abilene, Kansas.
