Luther C. Challiss, a well known citizen and early settler in Atchison, died in that city some days ago. He was prominently connected with railroad building in early Kansas history. In 1864 he made a large fortune in Wall Street, New York city, but the tide turned against him and he returned to Atchison in 1879. After the death of Gov. John A. Martin he for a time edited the Atchison Champion. The Barton County Democrat, Great Bend, Kansas. August 2, 1894.
