WHITE CLOUD. Dog Eat Dog – Gen. Lane and the Doniphan Constitutionalist have got into a squabble. The Constitutionalist says that Lane’s band have been threatening to destroy that office, because the paper denounced Lane. To read the article from the Constitutionalist, on our first page, one would think the editor were about to demolish all the pig-pens in the neighborhood, and that he gathered his vocabulary of invectives from half a dozen “booktionaries.” On the other hand, Lane has been molested again by the Pro-Slavery men. He started for Atchison, on last Saturday week, to make a political speech, but was met outside the town, by a band of armed men, who compelled him to return to Doniphan. The Pro-Slavery men say the band was composed of the citizens of Atchison, without regard to party, who did not desire Lane’s presence among them, to breed a disturbance.
So it goes. If an injury is done a Pro-Slavery man, and Lane is known to be within fifty miles of the place, he is immediately set down as the instigator of the whole affair, and every charge that was ever made against him, is forthwith renewed. If, on the other hand, Lane’s dignity is insulted, by any person or set of persons, armed bands of ruffians are conjured up in every direction, lying in wait to take his life!
