LY Lyon County, Kansas, was established in 1855. Formerly known as Breckenridge County, it was one of Kansas’ original 36 counties. It was named for Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union General to be killed in the Civil War. The county seat of Lyon County is Emporia, Kansas.
